At least eight people were killed and 1251 others injured in more than 1250 road accidents across Punjab province in 24 hours, Rescue 1122 said on Wednesday.
According to spokesperson of Rescue 1122, the Emergency Service Department responded to 1216 road accidents in various citizens across Punjab. The accidents resulted in death of eight people besides leaving 1251 people including 612 critically injured who were shifted to nearby tehsil and district headquarter hospitals, the spokesman added. He said that quick response of Rescue 1122 providing on the spot first medical aid to the injured lessened the burden on hospital. The spokesperson further stated about 75 percent of the road accidents reported in 24 hours was due to motorcycles mishaps and it was direly needed to strictly follow the traffic rules to control the increase in ratio of accidents. According to data received by provincial monitoring cell of Rescue 1122, as per received emergency calls, 633 drivers, 33 underage drivers, 429 passengers and 197 pedestrians were affected in the said road accidents. As per data of Emergency Service Department, Lahore Control Room received 307 calls in which 314, Multan 75 and Gujranwala 71 calls resulting in injuries to 314, 74 and 53 people respectively.
