Inspector General Prisons Malik Shuja-ud-Din Kasi has said that efforts were underway to transform the existing prison system into rehabilitation centers in Balochistan, so that the inmates could be equipped with education, marketable skills and moral values. Any of the jail staff found involved in the supply of drugs within the prison premises will be dismissed from the job.
The IG flanked by AIG Syed Hameedullah Pechai, Superintendent Central Jail Zhob Muhammad Khurram Riaz, Deputy Superintendent Habib Khan, Assistant Superintendent Abdul Rafiq Kakar, Assistant Superintendent Dur Muhammad Mandokhail and prison staff visited the historic central jail here. As per tradition guard of honor was presented to the IG by a smartly dressed police contingent on his arrival. Superintendent jail gave a briefing to the IG on security of the prison and its administrative matters. IG and AIG inspected the security arrangements and visited various barracks including the juvenile, library, dispensary and kitchen.
He met the inmates and inquired about the issues they were facing and granted a two-month reduction in the imprisonment of the convicts involved in minor crimes. He also checked the health facilities at jail dispensary and directed the superintendent jail to ensure blood screening and provision of all other facilities to both convicted and under-trial prisoners in accordance with the jail manual and rules.
