LAHORE – River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is at medium flood level and River Chenab at Trimmu and River Ravi at Balloki are at low flood level.

All other major rivers are flowing below low flood levels.

River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is likely to reach a high flood level due to the possible release of more water from India and significant rains in the upper catchment areas.

As per the WAPDA telemetric, the water level at Ganda Singh Wala is 25.40 feet.

High water flow in River Sutlej has submerged nearby villages and fields in Kasur district in floodwater, causing people to shift to safer places due to the fear of further rise in the water level.

People in other districts have also started shifting from the villages close to River Sutlej to safer places. The authorities in the other districts have also made necessary arrangements to cop with any challenge.

According to the Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed, authorities have already started relief and rescue operations in the areas under flood threat. He said that 211 officers were taking part in the relief and rescue operation in Kasur district. He said that so far 4972 people have been shifted to safe places from the possible affected areas. He said that 1018 people have been rescued from the affected areas. He said that the authorities were providing all the necessary facilities to the people at special relief camps. He directed the district administration to increase the number of rescue teams. He said that the authorities were monitoring the relief and rescue operation from the central control room. He said that a stringent action would be taken against officials not discharging duties properly.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the country which are likely to intensify on July 17. A westerly wave is also present over northern parts of the country.

More scattered to widespread thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls at isolated places is expected over the upper catchments of all the major rivers from July 14 to July 16.
