A customs inspector has been suspended for allegedly demanding a bribe from a passenger at Lahore Airport.
The decision comes after a video was widely shared on social media in which a customs officer openly demanded a bribe from a Canada-bound passenger at the Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The viral video was covertly captured by the passenger himself who recorded the inspector namely Imran Elahi as the latter can be seen and heard demanding a bribe from the passenger.

In the video from the counter, the customs officer can be heard apprising the man of the cash he was taking away with him and threatening him with seizing all his money because customs law does not allow passengers to take more than $9,500 out of the country.

The customs inspector holding the position of BS-17 has been suspended for a period of 120 days. The clip soon went viral and prompted action from the deputy collector of customs who directed the officer to report to the headquarters.

According to an official notification released by the FBR, the suspension order was issued under Efficiency & Discipline Rules 2020.

On the instructions of Collector Customs Mehreen Naseem, Deputy Collector Raja Bilal started an inquiry into the case.
