A constable embraced martyrdom during a shootout with fleeing dacoits at Bhatti Chowk late the other night.
According to a spokesperson for police, Constable Ramzan flagged down to stop two suspects riding a bike at Bhatti Chowk.
The suspects, however, fired shots at the cop. Resultantly, he sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
The spokespersons said the two gunmen were fleeing after committing a dacoity when they had an encounter with police.
DIG Operations Sadjid Kiyani took notice of the incident and ordered the City Police SP to bring the culprits to book at the earliest.
He paid tribute to the martyred cop, saying his sacrifice wound not be let go down the drain. He reiterated his team’s resolve to lay down lives for the protection of public.
The DIG directed the operations wing to track down the culprits with help of CCTV footage. The police have registered a case and launched hunt for the culprits.
