LAHORE – As many as 55 complaints were filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the election day on Thursday. The major complaint was about suspension of the internet and mobile service across Pakistan.
Political leaders including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed serious concerns over suspension of the internet and mobile service in the country.
According to the ECP, mostly the complaints were about the fighting incidents and were of the normal nature.
“We have addressed 45 complaints so far,” said the ECP in a statement, clarifying the situation. It also said that the working is underway on the rest of ten complaints and these were also of the normal nature.
The ECP said that the polling process would continue without any interruption till 5 PM, and till filing of these words, the ECP said that there was no suggestion regarding extension in the time of the polling process.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja claimed that the commission was still strong to complete the election process. He said that the internet and mobile services were suspended due to the security reasons.
“We don’t have mandate about the internet and mobile services in the country,” CEC Raja was quoted as saying. He said the election process so far was peaceful.
The latest reports suggested that the fights and scuffles took place at the various polling stations in the country. Hyderabad witnessed the angry workers of two political parties coming against each others.
