On the directions of Justice Lahore High Court Shahid Karim, first meeting of the committee established to improve the living environment of the provincial capital was held under the chairmanship of Director General LDA Aamir Ahmad Khan. Environment safety, parking, traffic conjession, purpose build land use and building regulations were discussed in the meeting.
On this occasion, Director General LDA Aamir Ahmad Khan said that according to the order of Lahore High Court, LDA has decided to upgraded the 9 important roads in the city as Model Roads. In the first phase, the main boulevard Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town G-One Road from Dr. Hospital to Expo Center will be upgraded as model roads. Schools, institutions, hospitals, restaurants and commercial buildings established on these raods will be ensured to eliminate encroachment from the parking area and building regulations will be ensured. Action will be taken against traffic congestion, wrong parking and encroachment on these roads.
The main purpose of these Model Roads is to control environmental pollution, solve traffic and parking problems.
DG LDA said that those, who ignored the SOPs, despite repeated warnings, will be sealed. All stakeholders were directed to work together on the project of model roads and it was decided to form a sub-committee consisting of representatives of allied departments. The sub-committee will review the progress from time to time and prepare its report.
Chief Town Planner Shakeel Anjum Minhas, Chief Metropolitan Planner Nadeem Akhtar Zaidi, Director TEPA, concerned Town Directors, ADC Lahore, PHA, Traffic Police, MCL, LESCO representatives, Syed Moazzam Ali Shah Advocate Supreme Court, Khadija Amjad Wazir, Advocate, Qasim Abbas Bhatti Deputy Director Law and other officers participated in the meeting.
