Chief Minister Balochistan Abdul Quddus Bizinjo on Friday directed the Provincial Disaster Manage-ment Authority (PDMA) to immediately launch the effective relief activities in the catastrophe hit areas of Balochistan.

An earthquake of 5.1 magnitude jolted parts of Ba-lochistan on Friday morning damaging hundreds of houses in remote areas of Khuzdar and other parts of the province.

“The relief operation will be launched on war foot-ings in the quake-stricken areas, “ the CM said.

Expressing his grief over the loss of properties, he said, “We stand by the affected population and they will not be left alone in this critical hour”.

Chief Minister assured that the damages caused by the tremor will be compensated.

Meanwhile an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 jolted parts of Balochistan on Friday morning, the Na-tional Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) con-firmed. The NSMC said that the centre of the earth-quake was 80 kilometers north of Bela city of Ba-lochistan province. Tremors were felt in Khuzdar, Dalbandin, Harnau, Omara, Washuk and Chaghi districts.

The quake created panic in the affected areas forc-ing them to leave their houses in fear. “The roofs of hundreds of houses collapsed in the Arinji area of Khuzdar,” Provincial Disaster Management author-ity officials quoting reports reaching the provincial capital said. The official further noted that the res-cue operation has been launched in the affected areas, however no loss of life has so far reported from any parts of the province.—APP
