MUMBAI – Amitabh Bachchan, one of the greatest stars of Indian cinema, continues to work, keeping an active presence in Bollywood, but on Friday, the 81-year-old underwent angioplasty – a procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries.
The Deewaar star was moved to a private hospital in Mumbai where he received a medical procedure and was shortly discharged. Sources familiar with Bachchan’s family said the surgical procedure had not been performed on his heart but on a clot in his leg.
Amitabh post on X, formerly Twitter, amassed attention online, as fans expressed concerns and showers prayers and blessings to the octogenarian star.
The living legend was earlier spotted at a major hospital for what was termed as routine medical check-up, after which he left.
Despite facing age-related health issues, Bachchan dedicated himself to his work, filming for upcoming projects and staying actively involved in the entertainment industry.
Bachchan left indelible mark in cinema with his decades long acting career. He featured in over 190 films that have resonated with audiences across generations. From Zanjeer to Sholay, and Deewaar to Pink, he solidified his status as a legendary actor.
