An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police embraced martyrdom in exchange of firing with dacoits. The police said the shootout took place in the remit of Rangpur Police in Muzaffargarh district.
According to police, a wanted dacoit identified as Ghulam Shabbir also died during the shootout.
According to police sources, Ameerpur police picket in-charge, Mulazim Hussain raided to arrest dacoits involved in a dacoity at Pir Dona Rajan. During raid, dacoits opened fire at police party in which ASI Mulazim Hussain sustained bullet injuries and was moved to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
The police have cordoned off the area and search operation to arrest other accomplices of the dacoit was underway till the last reports came in.
