LAHORE – Aliya Hamza, a stalwart of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was released from Gujranwala Jail after getting relief from the court.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of Lahore High Court directed authorities that Aliya should not be held in any new cases without prior court approval.
The judge also ruled that no agency could arrest Hamza without the court’s authorization and requested the Attorney General of Pakistan, Mansoor Awan, to provide a report on any FIRs filed against her by the next hearing date.
Aliya’s legal team approached court, maintaining that she was being held in politically motivated cases. It argued that her rights were being infringed upon through the use of false cases against her, despite her lack of involvement in them.
The petition also noted that while Hamza got bail in several cases, she was still facing new charges. It sought the court’s protection to prevent her arrest in additional cases and to grant her protective bail.
Hamza faces allegations related to the chaos and arson during the May 9 riots that erupted after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
