K-Electric (KE), with law enforcement agencies, has intensified its fight against electricity theft, conducting operations in Baldia IBC areas, including Iqbal Road, Delhi Colony, Mujahid Colony, and Turk Colony. Over 301 illegal connections, commonly known as kundas, weighing a total of 480 kilograms, were removed from the power utility’s infrastructure.

In 2024, KE ramped up its anti-theft initiatives, conducting nearly 25,000 kunda removal drives across Karachi.

These efforts resulted in the removal of over 250,000 illegal connections, equivalent to 350,000 kilograms of illegal wiring. In the Baldia cluster alone last year, the utility removed more than 30,000 kundas, weighing approximately 60,000 kilograms. Illegal connections not only damage KE’s infrastructure but also pose severe safety risks to residents.

The ongoing operations aim to curb electricity theft, reduce financial losses, and create safer communities by addressing these hazards. Currently, 70 percent of KE’s network is free from loadshedding. However, areas with higher electricity theft and unpaid bills experience longer outages. KE highlighted that responsible electricity usage and timely bill payments are key to ensuring minimal or no loadshedding in neighborhoods.

KE continues to call on customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage electricity theft and promote bill payments to support uninterrupted power supply.

The utility also urged the government to prioritize the elimination of illegal connections to ensure sustainable energy for all.
