Police in Chiniot on Thursday arrested two more accused over gang-raping a university student four days after horrendous crime committed at a village. The main accused, Shahid, is already in police custody while the fourth nominated person, Imran, had fled after obtaining interim bail from a local court.
As the police managed to capture Tassawar and Riaz Hussain, DPO (District Police Officer) Bilawal Zafar vowed to get the accused punished, saying such incidents won’t be tolerated.
Earlier, the police had said the four accused gang-raped Farwa – a student of Government College University – at gunpoint and also filmed her ordeal. The crime was committed under a plan as Shahid, her class fellow, tricked her to visit his village in Chiniot where he along with other friends sexually assaulted her. Women in Pakistan going through a torrid period as they face harassment everywhere – from home to educational institutions and workplaces. Spending a few minutes at any bus stop is enough to gauge what kind of insulting treatment they experience in everyday life.
It is not the first or unique incident as the nation is still in shock after the Lahore motorway gang-rape case where a woman was sexually assaulted in front of her children. This horrendous act in September was followed by the insulting remarks repeatedly passed Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh who blamed the victim for the incident, saying she shouldn’t travelled without a male family member in night.—INP
