Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday reiterated that the ‘fake’ assemblies would not be allowed to complete their terms. The JUI-F chief’s remarks came while he was speaking to media in Shorkot, Punjab, before leaving for Bannu to head PDM’s rally – opposition’s second phase of the anti-government campaign.
Fazl said that the current assemblies were formed by stealing public mandate and that Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken the path of retreat.
“PDM’s rallies and meetings were hindered in Dera Ismail Khan, Multan and Lahore,” Fazl claimed. “Local media was forced to misreport which was rejected by the international media.” “What we are doing through the PDM is commonly referred to as a movement when in fact it is a jihad-e-sharee [jihad as warranted by the sharia]. Struggling against this [PTI] government is a jihad and turning one’s backs on it will be a sin,” the Maulana said.
He said the PDM consists of different parties with different points of views and different opinions and it is natural to have a difference of opinion regarding its roadmap. “However, we all are on the same page regarding the PTI led government and believe that it needs to go.” Fazl said there is a lot of time to finalise a strategy for staging a long march towards Islamabad and tender resignations from the assemblies. “Our strategy has changed after consultations with our legal experts,” he pointed out.
“We are moving ahead under one strategy,” the JUI-F chief said. The JUI-F chief also condemned killing of 10 coal miners in Balochistan and demanded strong action against those involved in the incident. Talking to media in D I Khan, he said, “The government says it has defeated the terrorists, where is that defeat?” He called the Machh massacre a tragic incident and said those responsible should be brought to justice
All minority communities in the country are in a vulnerable position, he said. Fazl also spoke about the Senate elections and PDM’s long march plan. Decisions regarding the Senate elections are unanimous, he said, adding that the anti-government alliance is focused on strategy within the framework of the Constitution and law.
