Widespread monsoon rains predicted in Lahore, parts of Punjab

LAHORE – Widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Tuesday night and the next two days. Isolated heavy falls are also predicted during the period.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate upper/central parts of Pakistan. A trough of westerly wave also prevails over upper/central parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, more monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Khanewal, Multan, Kasur, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Dera Ghazi Khan on Tuesday night and the next two days with occasional gaps. Heavy falls are also likely in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujrat during the period.

Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat and Dera Ghazi Khan. Urban flooding is expected in low lying areas of Punjab from tonight to 24th July. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 36-38°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, widespread rains occurred in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Steady rains disturbed routine life by causing urban flooding in major cities including Lahore.

Rainfall (mm): Sialkot (Airport 104 City 69), Mandi Bahauddin 98, Gujranwala 82, Gujrat 54, Islamabad (Saidpur 61, City 50, Golra 20, Bokra 06, Airport 04), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 61, Chaklala 41, Kacheri 10), Narowal 44, Mangla 42, Jhelum 37, Hafizabad 35, Murree 18, Sheikhupura 16, Lahore (City 14, Airport 02), Attock 06, Chakwal 02,

Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest places in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C. Maximum temperature in Multan was recorded at 41°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 62 per cent.
