Weather outlook of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; more rains, snowfall predicted

PESHAWAR – More rains and isolated hailstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday evening/night, Saturday and Sunday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave is affecting most parts of Pakistan which will likely persist in upper parts till Sunday (March 03).

Under these conditions, more rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan on Friday evening/night. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places during the period.

On Saturday and Sunday, more rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, Kohat and Waziristan. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at scattered places during the period. Rain/thunderstorms are also expected in Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Heavy rains may cause flash flooding in hill torrents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday and Saturday (March 01-02). Heavy rain/snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad during the period.

Peshawar’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 07-09 C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills occurred in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Snowfall (inches): Kalam 6.5, Malam Jabba 03

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 03 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 10 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 82 per cent.
