The Wazir tribes of Ahmad Zai convened their second Grand Jirga in Wana Rustam Bazar of Lower South Waziristan District on Monday, aiming to resolve the challenges plaguing the Angoor Adda border and transform it into the region’s premier trade route with Afghanistan.

In a series of impassioned addresses, prominent figures including Maulana Mirza Jan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, along with Malik Saeed Ullah, Malik Jameel, Malik Saidra Noor, and Saif Ur Rehman, President of Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the staggering economic losses incurred due to the suspension of commercial activities at the border. They stressed the urgent need to revive trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan to bolster the local economy and uplift the livelihoods of the tribal communities.

The elders of the nine tribes unanimously agreed to take concrete steps to facilitate trade activities at the Angoor Ada border, emphasizing the importance of permanent trade routes for the prosperity of future generations. Resolutions were passed to ensure strict measures against any disruptions to Pak-Afghan trade, signaling a collective resolve to safeguard the region’s economic interests. Announcing plans for a third Grand Jirga, the Ahmad Zai Wazir elders reiterated their commitment to finalizing decisions that would address the pressing concerns of the community.

Meanwhile, a protest sit-in at the Angoor Ada border has entered its fifth month, with participants demanding the fulfillment of their legitimate grievances.
