LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to impose heavy fines for checking water wastages.

During hearing of smog related cases, Justice Shahid Karim directed imposing minimum fine of Rs1 million on industries over repeated violations.

Following the orders, the commercial and domestic users will be fined Rs20,000 and Rs10,000, respectively for wasting water.

As per the media reports, Justice Karim directed the EPA officials to refer cases of factories unsealed on their own to the judicial commission.

Moreover, action had been initiated against environmental officers in compliance with the court’s orders. A member of the judicial commission accused officials of taking bribes, adding that factories polluting the environment operate during night time.
