LAHORE – Electricity consumers across the country, including Lahore region, are forced to pay exorbitant bills due to inclusion of massive fuel price adjustments and taxes.
People in different cities also staged protests against the higher bills, demanding the government to reverse taxes as there is no increase in their income.
Amid all this, most of the common people are unable to understand what is dubbed by them complex electricity bills as it carries various adjustments, charges and others.
Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) extends five main districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and Nankana) of Punjab province serving an approximate population of 25 million.
In this story, we are going to explain the electricity bill of a Lesco consumer, who used 421 units in the month of June 2024 and charged Rs22,129.
There are three main sections on the bill paper – Lesco charges, Government Charges and Total Charges.
Lesco Charges
The cost of electricity of 421 units is Rs14,835.77 at the rate of Rs36.240 per unit. The charges also include Rs7.5 in wake of meter rent, Rs646.43 in wake of fuel price adjustment, Rs1,359.83 in wake of FC Surcharge and Rs1,617.96 under the head of Quarterly Tariff Adjustment. The total Lesco charges for the 421 units stand at Rs18,467.49.
Govt Charges on Electricity Bill
In this category, the bill include Rs246.81 in wake of electricity duty, Rs35 TV fee, Rs3,252 GST, Rs118 GST on FPA and Rs9.70 in wake of Excise Duty on FPA, making total government charges Rs3,661.51.
Total Charges Section
In this section, the current bill stands at Rs21,354.87. However, it also includes Rs774.14 in wake of total FPA, making the total per month bill Rs23,190 in the month of June 2024.
