UAE airport aims for Passport-Free Travel with world-first biometric system

LAHORE – Travel is getting modern day-by-day and in the latest development, Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport is bringing a new system that will no longer be required need for passports and boarding passes by 2025.

Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport will use advanced biometric technology, specifically facial recognition, to streamline entire travel process, making check-in and boarding much quicker and smoother.

Passengers at latest airport will experience level of convenience, boarding flights without ever needing to present a passport, ID, or ticket. The airport Smart Travel Project plans to install biometric sensors at all identification points, including check-in counters, immigration, duty-free shops, airline lounges, and boarding gates.

UAE Airport Passport-Free Travel

With new degradation, biometrics includes unique features like facial or iris patterns, and will be used to verify passengers’ identities and travel status at various points where documentation is typically required.

Some areas of the airport already use this technology. However, the expansion to cover the entire passenger journey represents a significant advancement.

The aim is to make passenger transit faster and more efficient. Initial results have been promising, with passengers reportedly moving from curb to gate or retail areas in less than 15 minutes.

Given the airport’s capacity to handle 45 million passengers, this level of efficiency in such a large facility is a remarkable achievement, and will inspire millions.
