Türkiye to set up cultural centers in Sindh, offers scholarships

Turkish Consul General CemalSangu, accompanied by Regional Head TIKA Karachi Halil Ibrahim Basaran, held a meeting with Provincial Minister of Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Archives Sindh Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah to discuss bilateral cultural and tourism promotion. During the meeting, Consul General Sanguannounced the phased establishment of cultural centers within Sindh’s libraries.

The initiative aims to enhance cultural exchange and understanding between Türkiye and Pakistan. The first cultural center will be set up at Liaquat Memorial Library Karachi, alongside Türkiye government scholarships for students studying in the region. Expressing gratitude for Türkiye’s support, Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah highlighted the importance of fostering mutual accessibility to diverse cultures.

Sindh Minister Tourism, Antiquities, and Archives Zulfiqar Ali Shah emphasized the potential benefits of strengthened tourism and cultural ties between the two nations, underscoring Sindh’s historical, religious, and cultural significance as a tourist destination.

Sindh Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah reiterated Chairman Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s sentiments regarding Türkiye’s importance as a brother country, emphasizing the broader benefits of stable relations across cultural, tourism, social, political, and economic domains. As a gesture of appreciation, Minister Shah presented Sindhi traditional Ajrak and replicas of antiquities from Mohan Jo Daro to Consul General Sangu and Halil Ibrahim Basaran.

The meeting was also attended by DG Libraries Ijaz Sheikh and MD Sindh Tourism Development Corporation Fayyaz Shah, highlighting the collaborative efforts to enhance cultural and tourism exchanges between Türkiye and Sindh.
