Recognizing the pressing need for modern agricultural practices in South Waziristan, Dr. Anwar Bittani, Director of Agriculture for the region, emphasized the significance of tunnel farming, specifically vertical net farming, to address the challenges faced by farmers. In a recent statement, Dr. Bittani underscored the importance of adopting advanced agricultural techniques to overcome the limitations of land holdings in the merged areas.
The Agriculture Department in South Waziristan has been actively working to boost agricultural productivity in both Lower and Upper regions. As part of their initiatives, the department has been promoting vertical net farming technology to achieve maximum production per unit area. The efforts have received praise from local farmers, with notable advancements seen in the cultivation of tomato crops.
Adam Khan Wazir, a progressive farmer from Spin village in Wana, has successfully implemented vertical net farming for tomato cultivation with the support of the Agriculture Extension Department. The department provided necessary inputs under the “Integrated Agriculture Development in Merged Areas” (AIP) scheme. Mr. Wazir’s initiative has showcased the potential of this modern farming technique.
During a recent inspection of Mr. Wazir’s tunnel farm, Agriculture Officer Habib ur Rehman provided technical support and valuable instructions for optimizing the crop yield.
