ISLAMABAD – Three high court judges on Tuesday took oath as Supreme Court judges a day after the Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification regarding their elevation to the apex court.

The judges, who took oath, include Lahore High Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, and LHC Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered oath to them at a ceremony held at the apex court earlier in the day.

A day earlier, the law ministry notified the appointments of the three high court judges to the top court following the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari under Article 177.

After Justice Shahzad’s elevation to SC, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan has been appointed as acting LHC chief justice by President Zardari under Article 196.

Justice Shujaat will perform duties as acting LHC CJ until the appointment to the post, it stated.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had recommended the elevation of three high court judges, including LHC and SCH chief justices.
