PESHAWAR – In a conservative move, a higher educational institution in the country’s northwestern region warned all students not to interact with members of opposite-gender within the campus.

A notification dated February 15 from the Office of the Students Facilitation Gomal University D.I Khan has alerted students that gatherings of male and female are restricted on the ground and roads.

The female students are directed to be careful and limit themselves from male students, advising against all kinds of socialization with the opposite sex.

The bizarre announcement from the state-owned organisation prompted social media users, human rights activists, and social influencers to react.

This was however not the first such move from the Gomal University as it earlier warned students of fine for listening to music.

The public university located in Dera Ismail Khan continued to make news for all the wrong reasons as earlier a varsity’s Islamic Studies and Arabic Department professor was sacked over allegations of sexual harassment.

Some of the other institutions also made triggering moves even National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), one of the prestigious institute, sparked debate online when it restricted female students to wear jeans.

Are same-sex classrooms more effective in education?
