Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza of Attock has underscored the utmost importance of prioritizing the treatment and care of children suffering from thalassaemia. His remarks came during his participation as a special guest at a ceremony commemorating World Thalassemia Day, organized by Prof. Maqsood Alhi, President of the League of Human Welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Raza highlighted the significant steps taken to address the healthcare needs of thalassemia patients in the district. He announced the establishment of a dedicated Thalassemia Center at the Government Esfandyar Bukhari District Hospital (GEBDH), which aims to provide comprehensive medical facilities to children affected by thalassemia.
“The welfare and treatment of children afflicted with thalassemia remain our top priority,” stated Deputy Commissioner Raza. “The newly inaugurated Thalassemia Center at Esfandyar Bukhari District Hospital is equipped with 25 beds and staffed by eight to ten doctors, ensuring prompt and effective medical care for over 250 affected children in the district.”
Deputy Commissioner Raza emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of thalassemia patients, stating that the construction of the center, spanning an area of one kanal, incurred an expenditure of approximately 4 million rupees.
During the ceremony, other dignitaries including Deputy Director of Social Welfare Arif Siddiqui and Medical Social Welfare Officer Muhammad Zubair also addressed the audience, reaffirming their support for initiatives aimed at alleviating the burden of thalassemia on affected families.
