India thrashed Afghanistan by 47-run in a Super 8s stage Group-1 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Bridgetown on Thursday.
Chasing a challenging 182-run target for victory, Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ended up at 134/10 in the allocated 20 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai was the top scorer, making 26 runs. Najibullah Zadran scored 19 runs, Gulbadin Naib 17, Mohammad Nabi 14, Noor Ahmed 12 and Rehmanullah Gurbaz 11 runs. No other batter could manage to enter the double figures. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh bagged three wickets each, Kuldeep Yadav had two and Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket each.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India scored 181/8 in the allocated 20 overs. Player of the match Suryakumar Yadav was the highest scorer with 53 runs followed by Hardik Pandya who made 32. Virat Kohli made 24, Rishabh Pant 20, Axar Patel 12 and Shivam Dube 10 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi and skipper Rashid Khan bagged three wickets each and Naveen-ul-Haq had one while Axar Patel was run out.
