New York – Canada beat Ireland by 12 runs in a Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in New York on Friday.
Chasing a 138-run target for victory, Ireland reached 125/7 in the allocated 20 overs. Mark Adair was the highest scorer with 34 runs followed by George Dockrell who made 30. Andy Balbirnie scored 17 and Lorcan Tucker 10 runs. no other batter could reach double figures, as Ireland fell 12 runs short of the victory target. Jeremy Gordon and Dilon Heyliger bagged two wickets each, Saad Bin Zafar and Junaid Siddiqui one wicket each while Lorcan Tucker was run out.
After being asked to bat first by Ireland skipper Paul Stirling, Canada reached 137/7 in the allocated 20 overs. Player of the match Nicholas Kirton was the top scorer with 49 runs followed by Shreyas Movva who made 37. Pargat Singh made 18 and Aaron Johnson 14 runs. Craig Young and Barry McCarthy bagged two wickets, and Gareth Delany and Mark Adair took one wicket each while Shreyas Movva was run out on the last ball while attempting an impossible second run.
