ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court on Thursday took suo motu notice of Senator Faisal Vawda’s insultive remarks against Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges.
The apex court initiated suo moto proceedings after a fiery press conference by Senator Vawda, as he demanded evidence of interference in the judiciary. A three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa will hear the case on Friday.
Senator Vawda came down hard on Islamabad High Court judges for not sharing details to support their claims of interference.
IHC Registrar’s office responded to Vawda’s request for communications between judges Athar Minallah and Babar Sattar regarding the green card controversy.
In his presser, the senator mentioned that institutions should not be targeted on basis of mere accusations. Vawda further raised questions why politicians are not allowed to hold dual nationalities but the same does not apply to judges.
Previously, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Talal Chaudhry and Mansoor Awan after Justice Babar Sattar wrote another letter alleging interference in an ongoing case.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) also responded to the Vawda criticism that the constitution does not prohibit individuals with dual nationality or residence permits from serving as judges.
IHC registrar informed Vawda that matter of Justice Sattar’s possession of a Green Card was discussed and approved by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) before Sattar was appointed as an IHC judge. The registrar also noted that applicants for high court judge positions are not asked about dual nationality.
