Sindh government is preparing to take over the management of the Green Line and Orange Line bus services by February 2025, with a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi to finalize the transition. The meeting focused on formalizing the transfer of the Green Line service from the federal government to Sindh, along with the Orange Line bus service’s shift to provincial management.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Dayo, and CEO of Trans Karachi Tariq Manzoor Chandio, alongside consultants and operators of the respective bus services. Minister Memon emphasized the need for a seamless transfer and directed officials to expedite necessary actions.
He also instructed the legal review of the project agreements to implement reforms where necessary. Senior Minister Memon clarified that while the Green Line service was originally scheduled for transfer in January, the Sindh government will now officially assume control in February 2025.
He highlighted past concerns regarding expensive contracts signed by the federal government for the Green Line project, and assured that the Sindh government will thoroughly review these agreements following the handover.
Memon reaffirmed the importance of the Green Line as a critical service for Karachi’s commuters and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the service’s quality and performance. He noted that the Sindh government’s priority is to provide reliable and comfortable public transportation and to modernize and expand transport infrastructure to meet the growing demand in urban areas.
With the transfer, the Sindh government plans to implement operational improvements and upgrades to ensure the Green Line service becomes a model of sustainable urban transit for Karachi.
