RAWALPINDI – Awami Muslim League Chief and former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid predicted establishment of a technocrat government by September 20, revealing that interviews for this new government have already begun.
Sheikh Rashid said that despite the passage of two years, he did not receive charge-sheets for the 14 cases filed against him. He alleged that the police included his name in the May 9 cases after accepting a bribe of 1 million rupees, and that individuals not detained for four days had provided statements under Section 164.
He expressed these words while talking to the reporters outside Adiala jail on Monday.
Rashid revealed that he has lost 40 kilograms and expressed disbelief at being taken away from Gate No. 4. He also reported that the police confiscated jewelry belonging to his family members, his watches, and his shoes.
Rashid appealed to his lifelong associates and specifically to Army Chief General Asim Munir for a general amnesty.
He addressed the involvement of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in ongoing cases, stating that he has refrained from commenting against them. Rashid stressed the need to distinguish between leaders and workers, asserting that while he has personal connections with one individual, he has no broader association with the party.
Further, Rashid said that August 31 is an important date, suggesting that the current government is preparing to vacate its positions. He announced his plan to become fully active from August 31 and reiterated his prediction that a technocrat government could be in place by September 20. He warned that the forthcoming changes might be detrimental.
Rashid criticized the orchestrated nature of election victories, admitted that his own votes were removed. However, he accepted his defeat.
He expressed discontent with Shahbaz Sharif, labeling him ineffective.
“Shehbaz Sharif is making efforts but Nawaz Sharif will not grant extension to anyone,” he added.
