KARACHI – The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the authorities to restore the services of social media platform X, formerly Twitter, with immediate effect.
The high court remarked that the Service of the social media platform should be provided to the masses without interruption. It also barred the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) from disrupting the services of these platforms in future.
The development comes as social media platform continues to remain inaccessible to users in Pakistan after internet watchdog groups started to report outages on Saturday.
The country’s interim interior minister told an international media organisation that he was not aware of any restrictions. He mentioned having no knowledge about the outage, saying the matter doesn’t come under his ministry.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not shared any clarification while the body has also not responded to multiple questions on X closure but said PTA is a regulatory body which enforces orders issued by the government.
Earlier, NetBlocks, said live metrics show a new national-scale disruption to X/Twitter in #Pakistan amid escalating unrest and protests over allegations of election fraud, following a high-level resignation and public admission of vote manipulation by a senior election official.
