A delay in the replacement of the existing trunk sewer line, along with the upgrading of the allied sewerage system, has made the routine life of the residents of Johar Town terrible.

The situation has worsened to an extreme level as one side of the six-lane Kyaban-i-Fridausi (Johar Town’s main boulevard) has been closed for the last 15 days, forcing motorists to remain stuck in traffic congestion on the boulevard’s service lane, starting from LDA complex to Shadiwal Chowk.
On the other hand, the existing 40-year-old trunk sewer line continues to create trouble again and again. It has faced rupture four times, including two occurrences on Friday and Saturday night.

This has led to the suspension of wastewater drainage and the water supply system off and on.
“I have never seen the closure of the main boulevard for 15 days and onward in such an important and huge housing scheme,” said Amir, a resident of Johar Town.

“It shows gross negligence on the part of the government, which seems least interested in resolving the issue of the sewerage system.”
According to a senior Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) officer, who wished not to be quoted, the issue was taken up with top government authorities concerned four times from 2020 to 2023, but no one paid heed.
