Serena Williams continued her successful return to tennis by reaching the Eastbourne semi-finals with her doubles partner Ons Jabeur.

The pair showed much-improved chemistry to earn a dominant a 6-2, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Shuko Aoyama and Chan Hao-ching.

It was a far cry from the first win for Williams and Jabeur, with the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and 14-time Grand Slam doubles champion looking much more comfortable, knocking out Doubles World No.10 Aoyama and No.49 Chan in just 65 minutes.

A routine first-set was followed by a much closer second stanza but Aoyama and Chan went 0-for-9 on break points in that set, with aces by Williams erasing four of those opportunities.

Serena Williams and Ons Jabeur will take on Aleksandra Krunic and Magda Linette in the Semi-finals of the Eastbourne next.

Williams will be making her first singles appearance in over a year at Wimbledon later this month.

On the singles side of the draw, No.8 seed Jelena Ostapenko overcame Madison Keyes to reach the quarterfinals.

The American Keyes, the winner of the competition in 2014, retired from the match down a set at 6-3 due to an abdominal injury.

The Latvian will next face World No.36 Anhelina Kalinina for a spot in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Camila Giorgi recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain while the No. 14 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic posted a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 win over Katie Boulter of England to reach the next round.
