ISLAMABAD – Two officers of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been suspended due to their involvement in the issuance of illegal refunds.

A notification shared by country’s apex tax collection authority said Saeeda Islam, a BS-19 officer, has been designated as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), while BS-18 officer Shiraza Hemeed has been suspended based on a report from the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation (Inland Revenue) regarding these unauthorized refunds.

Saeeda Islam, who was serving as Commissioner-IR (OPS) (Refunds) at the Regional Tax Office in Lahore (previously Additional Commissioner-IR at the Large Taxpayers Office, Lahore), has now been reassigned as an OSD and placed under the Admin Pool at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad, stationed in Lahore, effective immediately and until further notice.

In a similar update, Shiraza Hameed, a BS-18 officer of Inland Revenue Service, was suspensdd in the exercise of powers conferred under Rule 5(1) of Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020.

Transparency in organizations like Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is crucial for fostering public trust and ensuring accountability. When these institutions operate with openness, it allows people to see how decisions are made and how resources are managed, thereby enhancing trust in their operations.

Such actions also address any misuse of funds or corruption as clear and open processes contribute to greater efficiency, as it becomes simpler to identify and rectify inefficiencies. Transparency helps ensure that Pakistani taxpayers understand their responsibilities and how their contributions are utilised.
