In Gujjarpura Ring Road rape case, women members of Senate Human Rights Committee visited the spot and expressed their displeasure over the poor performance of the Lahore Police to arrest main accused of police. Police briefed Senate committee members on the progress of the investigation so far.
The senators were angry with the Punjab police over the non-arrest of the main accused Abid Malhi.
It is worth mentioning here that Police are clueless about Abad Malhi even after 18 days, the main accused in the rape case. According to sources, there are reports of Abid’s possible presence in Okara, Sahiwal or Bahawalnagar. The accused has not contacted anyone since his last escape.
According to the details, the police could not catch Abid Ali even after approaching him about five times. Several police teams are conducting raids to nab the accused. Several relatives, including the father, sister, brother-in-law and wife of the main accused Abid Ali, have been detained. They are also investigating the accused.
Senate committee members said that one accused could not be arrested by the police, the accused was fleeing from everywhere and the police kept watching.
The culprits involved in the tragic incident should be brought to justice. Steps should be taken to prevent such incidents in future. The government should take concrete steps to protect women.
