The University of Okara’s Department of Media & Communication Studies, in collaboration with Directorate of Student Affairs and Department of Urdu, organized a seminar on ‘Advancing Human Rights’ where the renowned journalist, Salman Abid, delivered a special lecture, discussing the current scenario of human rights protection in Pakistan and role of media in this regard.

Salman Abid told, “Building narrative in this regard is extremely important, and only our educational institutions, particularly our universities, are the platform where strategies on it can be devised as how knowledge related to it can be systematically transferred to our masses.”

Addressing to the seminar, Dr Zahid Bilal, In-Charge Department of Media & Communication Studies, said that there was a dire need to revisit the existing concepts of human rights in Pakistan. “We can reduce social inequality and curtail human rights violations only through the provision of equal education opportunities to all.”

The Director Student Affairs, Dr Shoaib Saleem, highlighted the importance of youth empowerment and awareness for addressing the issues pertaining to human rights violations in the society. Dr Abdul Ghaffar from Department of Islamic Studies and Dr Sumaira Ijaz from Urdu also addressed the seminar.
