LAHORE— Punjab education authorities declared a holiday for all schools on October 18 Friday amid student protests.

All educational institutions will remain closed amid protests that erupted after allegations of rape with the first-year student, prompting students to voice their concerns about safety and security on campuses. Demonstrators have called for increased measures to protect students and hold perpetrators accountable.

Earlier, the provincial government declared a holiday for all colleges and universities on Friday as student activists demand stronger action and justice for the victim of alleged rape.

Police clashed with student protesters in Rawalpindi after demonstrations erupted in response to an alleged on-campus rape. The unrest began following viral social media reports of the incident in Lahore, leading to protests in multiple cities.

College students also vandalized college building and blocked traffic, resulting in police using batons and tear gas to disperse the crowds. Authorities arrested over 250 students for public disorder.  Some people were arrested for spreading misinformation about the alleged rape.
