ISLAMABAD – In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken up the appeal of the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) on Friday.

The appeal challenges the reinstatement of the ‘bat’ as the official election symbol for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), following a decision by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali scrutinized the case, responding to the PHC’s previous decision. The ECP’s petition argues that the high court’s ruling contradicts constitutional and legal provisions.

This legal battle stems from the PHC’s decision to restore the ‘bat’ as PTI’s symbol based on a petition filed by the party.

The Election Commission’s challenge to the verdict underscores the significance of the case, as it seeks redress at the highest judicial level. The outcome of this hearing will have implications for the official election symbols used by political parties in Pakistan.
