Alexis Sanchez scored a dramatic added time goal to earn Inter Milan a dramatic 1-1 draw at Torino as the Serie A title race took another turn over the weekend.
Inter fell behind early away from home with Torino’s Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer scoring the game’s first goal with 12 minutes on the clock.
Lautaro Martinez was the only Inter player to threaten the opposition goal in the first half. After his header was saved, Inter did not threaten to score. The visitors upped the ante after the break. Substitute Federico Dimarco came close to equalling things but was denied by a fine stop by Torino’s Etrit Berisha.
Edin Dzeko then headed wide from a good position, before Torino missed two chances to double their lead. First Josip Brekalo fired over the bar before Samir Handanovic denied Tommaso Pobega with a stunning save.
After the Bosnian striker Dzeko somehow missed the target again with a header, Sanchez scored his first goal since early February in the 93rd minute to salvage a point moments later for the visitors. The substitute snatched what could be a crucial point for Inter in their quest to retain the Scudetto but with Milan, Napoli and Juventus all earning three points this weekend, the defending Champions have fallen to 3rd in the table behind city rivals AC Milan and Napoli and sit only three points above Juventus but with a game in hand.
Inter have blown hot and cold this season. But with the capability of drubbing their opponents a draw against a Torino side without a win in six league games coming into the contest, would feel like a missed opportunity.
