The PPP leader does not mention anyone but says some people are giving excuses for delaying elections.
LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza on Friday said that rule of law and supremacy of parliament should only be possible through free, fair and transparent elections.
He was addressing the press conference along with Aslam Gill, Rana Jamil Manj, Rana Ashar, Ahsan Rizvi, Sonia Khan, Ayesha Ghori and Zeeshan Shami.
Hassan Murtaza said that elections should be held on time. He also said the country is ready for everything except elections. Without naming any one Murtaza said people were giving excuses for delaying elections.
“One leader says elections will be delayed because of weather and another says the economic situation is not suitable for elections”, Murtaza said.
He said, “one party wins the election, other loses. It is the right of the people they they should elect their representatives.” He said the leadership of PPP sacrificed their lives for rule of law and supremacy of the institutions. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged and Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.Bilawal Bhutto would address the public gatherings through video link on October 18. He said foundation day of PPP would be celebrated in November.
“October is a sad month for the People’s Party. Hundreds of our workers lost their lives who came to welcome their leader Benazir Bhutto,” he added.
General Secretary PPP said despite the political differences, the People’s Party did not want chaos. He called for unity among political parties adding that national challenges can only be solved by sitting together. He also said some words of their coalition partners were painful. Maybe they were on someone’s agenda to increase the distance. It was not right of somebody to associate anyone with Bhutto. Hassan Murtaza invited the media to visit the district of their choice. He claimed that there is no district of Punjab equal to any district of Sindh in the field of health. Sindh was not given its full share of the financial award.
Asif Zardari gave financial autonomy to the provinces through the 18th Amendment and the NFC award.
