Islamabad
Days after the Supreme Court (SC) took exception to the media reports over the legality of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s approval of Rs500 million for every lawmaker as uplift grant, the top court on Tuesday issued notices to the concerned after forming a 5-member larger bench to hear the matter on Wednesday.
The larger bench comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Ijazul Ahsan is set to hear the matter against distribution of development funds to parliamentarians.
Soon after formation of the bench, the court formally issued notices to Attorney General for Pakistan, principal secretary to Prime Minister, secretary cabinet division, federal finance secretary, all the provincial advocate generals and advocate general Islamabad, provincial chief secretaries and finance secretaries for today.
While referring the matter to Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed regarding formation of larger bench to hear the suo motu on February 03, a two-member bench of Justice Qazi Faez Isa dropped a hint at taking action against the government if the grant is proved against the constitutional provisions and settled principles of the superior court verdicts.—TLTP
