Robbery inside Karachi mosque draws public outrage; video goes viral

KARACHI – Armed bandits snatched cell phones, cash and other belongings from prayer leader and worshipers in a mosque in Federal B Area of Karachi.

The CCTV footage circulating in the social media has drawn public outrage as it is the first such incident inside a mosque. Street crime is on the rise in the port city these days. During Ramadan, around 7,000 incidents of theft/snatching of cell phones, cash, motorcycles, cars and other valuables have been reported from different parts of Karachi.

In the CCTV footage, the bandits can be seen taking away cell phones, cash and other valuables from imam masjid and two worshippers. The mosque administration had not reported the incident to the law enforcement agency. Police, however, has gathered CCTV footage of the incident from different locations in the close vicinity of the mosque.
