Ambassador Jiang notes substantial improvement in Pakistan’s energy sector due to Chinese companies’ investments
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Mr Jiang Zaidong has highlighted the ‘transformative impact the Chinese companies in reshaping Pakistan’s future’ and noted that these projects have not only strengthened Pakistan’s energy infrastructure but also created significant job opportunities for the Pakistani youth, empowering them with various skill sets.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong was addressing the launching ceremony of two highly-anticipated reports: ‘The Glorious 11 Years – How Chinese Companies Reshaped the Power Sector in Pakistan and the Business Climate Index of Chinese Companies in Pakistan’ by the China Chamber of Commerce held at the Marriott Hotel.
A large number of the officials from the two countries representing the Ministries of Finance, Energy, Information, the Members of the Parliament, heads of the Standing Committees, representatives of the China’s Chamber of Commerce, its Pakistani counterparts and the members of business and media communities had come up to attend the landmark event.
Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed YousafRazaGilani along with Ambassador of China Mr Jiang Zaidong formally unveiled the reports amidst loud applause from the audience.
The Chinese ambassador noted that there was a substantial improvement in Pakistan’s energy sector due to the Chinese companies’ investments and this cooperation is destined to expand further as the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is entering the second phase.
Ambassador Zaidong further remarked on how these investments have contributed to the improvement of Pakistan’s foreign reserves, underscoring the mutual benefits of China-Pakistan cooperation.
Senate Chairman YousafRazaGilani in his address paid rich tributes to the people and the leadership of China and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and its business companies for huge investments that have contributed to the economic uplift of Pakistan. He stated that the launch of the reports also testified the transparency and efficiency within Pakistan’s power sector. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to benefit from China’s unwavering support and investment, which is a testament to the deep and growing economic partnership between the two countries.
Minister for Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb also praised the role of the Chinese companies and their significant contributions to Pakistan’s economic development.
He highlighted how these investments have been pivotal in driving growth, improving infrastructure, and providing critical support to key sectors.
Chairman CCCPK, Wang Huihua, highlighted that since 2013, Chinese enterprises had revolutionized Pakistan’s power sector through 14 CPEC power generation projects, contributing 43pc of the country’s installed capacity.
According to Mr Wang Huihua, the Chinese companies have made significant contributions transforming the power structure towards green and low-carbon, reducing power shortages and generation costs.
