Moderate rains and gusty winds swept Punjab capital Lahore on Monday in a sigh of relief for residents of the provincial capital, who faced heatwave in the last fortnight.

Several areas in Lahore experienced thunderstorms and rainfall. Multan Road, Gulberg, Chauburji, Garden Town, Liaqatabad, Gulshan Ravi, Dholanwal, Lower Mall and Sheranwala Gate saw showers.

Meanwhile, local government officials instructed WASA Lahore to remain vigilant. All personnel and equipment should be on high alert, following the directions of MD WASA Ghaffar Ahmad.  Generators should be prepared and operational, and MD WASA’s officers have been briefed accordingly.

Meanwhile, temperature dropped significantly as cool winds and occasional showers covered the city and its surroundings.

Meteorological Department’s forecast of continuous rain until June 7 raised hopes for lasting relief from the recent heatwave. However, the sudden change in weather also brought its own challenges.

Lightning strikes and heavy rainfall led to power outages in many areas of the city.
