Rain forecast for Peshawar, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week

PESHAWAR – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday issued a weather forecast that predicts intermittent rain, hailstorms, and snowfall over the mountains for Peshawar and certain parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This weather pattern is expected to persist from February 17 to 20. As per the synoptic situation, a solid westerly wave will likely approach western parts of Pakistan on the night of February 17. This wave may grip the upper and central parts of the country on February 18.

Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan from February 17-20 with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03-05 degrees Celsius on Friday and 04-06 C on Saturday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the province, where the mercury dropped to 06 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 04 C. Relative humidity during the morning was 84 per cent.
