DOHA – Qatar plans to invest in Pakistan’s next import terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to assist the country, one of the biggest emerging buyers of fuel.

A report by Bloomberg said that Qasim Terminal Holding Co., a subsidiary of Qatar Energy, has moved the Pakistani government seeking clearance to take a stake in Energas Terminal Pvt.

The investment efforts come as Qatar plans to enhance its LNG production capacity over the next decade, which will require the Middle Eastern country to find more buyers for super-chilled fuel.

Qatar is already the largest supplier of LNG to Pakistan while the latest fuel deal between the two countries is set to start this year.

Energas’ terminal will be the nation’s largest with a capacity to import 1 billion cubic feet of gas a year, the report said.

Pakistan currently operates two LNG terminals, while Energas and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp. are planning to build the nation’s first two private projects.
