Punjab IG Rao Sardar Ali Khan on Thursday instructed the police to transfer the drug addicts to the rehabilitation centres, in order to make the provincial capital a drug-free city.

An action plan will be formulated in collaboration with the district administration, the department of health, social welfare and other interested agencies.

The concrete steps will be taken to relocate and rehabilitate addicted drug addicts found on the city’s streets and sidewalks. An intelligence-based operation will be launched against the drug supply network, who supplies drugs to them.

The IG said all departments have to work together to save youth from the scourge of drugs. In other cities, including Lahore, the crackdown on those involved in the buying and selling of modern drugs, ice, shisha and others will also intensify.

An awareness campaign will be launched in collaboration with civil society in hostels, educational institutions and other public places.
