LAHORE – The Punjab government expressed reservations over the demands of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding power-sharing in the province, the sources said on Saturday.
The sources said that the next meeting between the PPP and the PML-N on power-sharing would take place at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.
PML-N would be represented by Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, and Maryam Aurangzeb while Nadeem Afzal Chan and Ali Haider Gilani would represent the PPP.
The sources revealed that the PPP had already informed the PML-N about its demands and suggestions. The PPP had also sent a list of law officers to the PML-Nawaz (PML-N) and proposed the formation of district-level committees to oversee police operations in Punjab, said the sources.
A development fund package for PPP members of the Punjab Assembly, the sources said, was also agreed upon.
The Punjab government, according to the sources, promised to provide PPP members with Rs250 million in development funds.
The PPP also suggested providing Rs250 million in development funds to ticket holders who received more than 20,000 votes in the elections.
Moreover, the PPP proposed allocating Rs100 million in development funds to its female members elected on reserved seats, and it demanded the appointment of two law officers in each district.
The PPP also requested the inclusion of its representatives in the market committees, Bait-ul-Mal, and Zakat committees in every district.
The sources said that a final decision on whether the PPP’s demands would be accepted or not would be made at the Islamabad meeting.
