LAHORE – The Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control has stopped the collection of fee for issuance of computrised number plates for vehicles and motorcycles, ending years of mental agony suffered by public due to delay in the process.
The development comes after the provincial cabinet abolished the government monopoly in manufacturing of number plates. It has been decided that multiple private companies will be allowed to manufacture and distribute the plates to customers.
Excise Director General Faisal Fareed has issued a notification in this regard, barring the officials from collection of fee for number plates.
It is expected that engaging the private companies would not only streamline the process but also reduce the cost by up to Rs500.
It would be a huge relief for buyers of cars and motorcycles, who have been waiting for years to get the number plates despite paying fee.
