ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza Malik on Friday approached the Islamabad High Court to file protective bail against the cases registered against her in Faisalabad and Sargodha.
Advocate Khaqan Mir and Advocate Ishtiaq A. Khan filed the petition on behalf of the PTI leader. The lawyers asked the court for urgent hearing of the plea.
Just a day earlier, an anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala acquitted Aliya Hamza Malik in a case related to incidents on May 9.
Neither Aliya Hamza Malik nor her legal team appeared in court for the proceedings.
Aliya Hamza Malik had been named as an accused in a case registered at the Cantonment Police Station. She faced allegations of involvement in the May 9 attacks.
Following her release from Sargodha Jail, she was arrested by the Gujranwala police.
She is one of the prominent women leaders of PTI who faced cases and jail after removal of their government. Yasmin Rashid, Sanam Javed, Khadija Shah and others are among them. Yasmin Rashid, however, is still behind the bars.
